Thankyou to You All for your wonderful comments and memories on Facebook,

Daddy would be very honoured.

Daddy with his sister Dympna at the first surprise book launch in Bundoran,

Co. Donegal in the Great Northern Hotel beside the Astoria Ballroom where he launched the first Buckaroos in 1968

Daddy had intended to do Concerts in Autumn 2020, but in March, when looking at the Diary for Autumn and then the global pandemic, He advised me to wait until completely safer to begin any planning.

Then on 24th September 2020, his undiagnosed cancer was confirmed and Daddy died 6 weeks later on 7th November 2020 very peacefully; after having a lovely day together. He was in great form watching Westerns and later that evening whilst driving himself to hospital; he pulled over to the roadside on the Dromore Road, got out of the car feeling faint and lay down on the road.

He was immediately assisted by great friends Catherine and Gareth, and Catherine held his hand explaining the ambulance was arriving, and Daddy thanked Catherine asking her to travel with him in the ambulance, then fainting and died.

Daddy hadn't been told that treatment was not possible and we were planning for visiting his Consultants and the Nurses the following week after enjoying the day together.

Then a year later on Dad's Anniversary when we were bringing our flowers for Dad to Drumragh, Mick realised that I had a swollen lymphnode in my neck. Two months later the scans, tests and biopsies confirmed cancer.

I am forever grateful to Mick and very gratefully completed my Radio therapy at the North West Cancer Centre 22nd July 22.

The Consultants gave me an all- clear in December and explained I can look forward to singing again from March onwards.

Mick inspired me to begin Dad's Book,  again as a surprise for Daddy which was very special after all the years where Dad had always postponed Book commencement based on it being too big headed for him to write it. He always laughed about that but I always hoped he would agree to it.

So then Mick's vision to start the book, on the idea that Dad's Tribute song inspires it, meant we had some fun planning this next.

We got started and Mick brought me to a Design College Course and I then started working on everything knowing we couldn't say anything to keep it a surprise for Dad, even whilst Mick was driving Dad to Concerts or Dances.

I started contacting Singers, Writers, Presenters, and People in broadcasting explaining the surprise and asking them to write their memories

Mick's genius asking me to begin the Book whilst Daddy still living is truly remarkable, after he wrote the Tribute song.

When I presented Daddy with the very first Book printed, his face was hilarious as he put on his glasses.  As he glanced through the pages and sat down in wonderment, speechless ( once more ), He asked whose idea had achieved this.

I explained it was Mick, entirely Mick's idea, And then I contacted everybody to give their own memories. When Dad got to the Big Tom page He took off his glasses wiping his eyes filled with tears and said " Mick, Michael is a real good person, after cancer and all himself, God bless him ". I explained it was hilarious driving to Dances with Dad knowing that it was a surprise, and that I was very glad he was pleased, and it was Mum's idea to contact everybody for their memories and Daddy gave a round of applause.

He could not figure out how I had his favourite onstage photo on the cover and then he asked could he add his memories and could we work together, " Can we work together and please tell me I can keep this Book here ".

That was really brilliant, Mick's faith was right and how he made everything possible with true love, joy and happiness every day together.

We look forward to meeting you at Dad's Tribute Book Tour launch on 2nd April, Palm Sunday, the first Sunday available and for better Parking after Dad's Birthday, and meeting again having Birthday cake, tea and coffee to celebrate Together.

Thankyou Always

With Very Best Wishes

Kathy Coll
